Does The Slicks Backpack Travel System Live Up to the Hype?

Have you ever wanted your work bag to also be a gym bag, and a travel bag, all in one? Well, you’ll be glad to hear about the Slicks backpack, because it’s exactly what you’ve been looking for. Originally launched on Kickstarter in early 2016, the ingenious modular design of this backpack is what makes it stand out from other bags out there. Aside from the Boundary Prima System backpack, there aren’t many modular backpacks that have caught my eye. The Slicks backpack was made with one goal in mind: to give you as many packing and travel options in one bag. With its convenient features, you’re able to customize your Slicks bag to fit your particular travel needs. Let’s take a closer look at this transforming backpack, shall we?

A Work Travel Backpack That You Can Also Use Everyday? Here’s Why the Slicks Backpack Is So Versatile

Why is this backpack the perfect bag for work, gym, travel, and commute? It basically comes down to three things: the size, comfort, and organization capacity of the Slicks backpack.

Here is a brief rundown of the specifications of backpack you need to know:

  • Size: L 52cm X W 32cm X 20cm
  • 30 L capacity
  • Fits a 15” Laptop
  • Water resistant exterior
  • Rain cover included
  • TSA carry-on dimension compliant

This is very general information, but what’s important to point out is the size of the Slicks backpack. Most of the time, backpacks have a 25 L capacity for everyday use, which is fine. However, 25 L capacity is hardly enough for 2-3 day travel. That’s why 30 L is the perfect size for a backpack: not too small and not too big.

I’ll repeat the “not too big” part because this is also important. Many travel backpacks are sometimes too big and bulgy for everyday use, and can even exceed TSA carry-on dimensions. That’s not a problem that you have to worry about with the Slicks backpack. The great thing about this bag is that it’s versatile for everyday use, but practical enough to actually carry a good amount of items. You can take the Slicks pack with you to work without worrying about looking like a backpacker.

Now, that you have a good idea about the size of this bag, let’s talk about all the other cool features that we haven’t gotten to yet.

The Slicks Travel Backpack Modular Design Allows You to Customize Your Bag for Your Preferred Needs

The exterior design of the Slicks backpack gives you the power to tailor the bag to your travel and comfort needs. From backpack to briefcase, see how this backpack can transform in a matter of seconds.

One Backpack, Three Ways to Carry It: Backpack, Messenger, or briefcase

If you want to stay old school and carry the Slicks like a backpack, you’re in good hands.

  • The Slicks pack comes with padded shoulder straps, a bit thinner than most backpacks, but still better than nothing.
  • A padded back panel is another great feature, perfect for long wear. The back is well constructed to offer airflow, which keeps your back from getting sweaty.
  • Finally, the adjustable chest strap and hip belt help to give your back the support it needs for long durations of walking and standing.

For those of you that want to look cool or feel more confident “one-strapping” your backpack, no biggie! You can definitely turn your Slicks into a messenger bag.

  • The shoulder straps are a bit thin for a reason. You can stow them inside your back panel! Simply fold up the strap you want to put away, and you’ve got yourself a messenger bag.
  • You can do the same thing to your hip belt if you don’t feel like wearing that. Just unbuckle it, stow it, and you’re ready to go.
  • Even with the straps and belt hidden away in the back panel, you won’t feel uncomfortable at all.

Want to give your back a break? Tired of your shoulders doing all the work? Not a problem!

  • You can turn your Slicks into a convenient briefcase by stowing everything away and using the comfortable side handle provided.
  • Another perk of the backpack is the front duffle style pocket for easier access, as well as the hidden side pocket.

Slicks Briefcase Backpack is a Perfect Business and Travel Bag With Its Unique Compartments

Wearing a backpack is one thing. However, it’s also important to know how a backpack handles organization, especially when it comes to travel. You’d be pleasantly surprised to know that the Slicks actually comes prepared with all the storage that you’d need for a trip or for everyday use.

Slicks Front Duffle Style Pocket

This zip-up front pocket is a favorite of mine. Its clamshell shape is perfect for packing obscure shaped items like headphones, sunglasses, or chargers. It’s separated from the main compartment that’s underneath, so you don’t have to worry about your items mixing up altogether. One thing to note is that it is easier to pack the front pocket first, and then pack the bigger inside compartment. It makes it much easier to store bigger items in the front first, rather than doing it last and having to squeeze it in.

A Separate 15” Laptop Compartment Keeps Your Computer Safe

While some backpacks simply have a sleeve for laptops, Slicks has an entire zip-up laptop compartment in the back. The all around padded protection gives you ease of mind, while also making it easy to get your laptop without rearranging everything.

Slicks Hidden Shoe Pocket, Hidden Side Pocket, and Hidden Rain Cover

This backpack is a big fan of hidden pockets, and that’s because the creators wanted to minimize the amount of bulk on the outside of the backpack. This gives Slicks a much more minimalist design finish. First, let’s talk about the hidden shoe pocket.

For those of you who hate to pack your shoes and clothes together, I hear ya. It’s not the cleanest way to transport your things, nor is it the most organized way. Slicks addresses this problem by providing a secret shoe compartment. You can find it on the side of the bag by where the handle is.

Right above the shoe pocket, on the front face of the bag, is a small hidden pocket that’s perfect for storing your cellphone and wallet. It’s almost unnoticeable, but that’s the point. The less noticeable it is, the more unlikely it is that thieves will find it.

Finally, on the other side of the bag, you’ll find a hidden rain cover pocket, which carries the waterproof cover that’s included with the bag. Although the bag is water resistant, the cover is an extra precaution in case of a sudden downpour.

Main Suitcase Compartment Perfect for Business Travel or Leisure Holidays

The main suitcase compartment is the biggest pocket of the bag. Here is where you would want to pack all your clothing for a trip. At 52cm X 32cm, you have roughly enough space to pack for a 3-4 day trip. The open flat backpack has straps for tying down clothing, like a regular suitcase. Also inside are buckles for attaching Slicks Suitcover or Tripcover, which will be discussed later on.

On the inner side of the suitcase lid are 3 pockets: a zip pocket, a pocket for valuable documents, and a large mesh pocket. In here you can store your passport, documents, extra cash, and even an outer layer jacket.

High-Quality Materials is What the Slicks Backpack is All About

Not only is this backpack highly organized, it’s also built to last with durable materials. The outer shell itself is water resistant. Made from 600D PU-coated Nylon, Slicks holds up well against showers or snow. But there is a rain cover just in case of downpour and for ease of mind.

Moving onto to the hardware, you should know that Slicks only uses quality zippers. Not only are they water resistant, but they are also thief proof. Small zipper pockets make it difficult for thieves to access your pockets. You can also lock the laptop and main compartment zippers with a lock, just for extra percussion.

Light reflective elements have also been added to the exterior of the bag, for safety purposes. If you ever bike at night, then you know how dangerous it can be if you’re not wearing reflective clothes. Slicks take care of that by adding reflective fabric to the front of the backpack, the zippers, and even the rain cover.

If you’re in the market, specifically for a business backpack or a travel backpack, don’t worry, Slicks won’t let you down and here’s why. While they do sell the backpack on its own, you can actually purchase bundles that include additional inserts, made specifically for business or adventure travel.
