If you plan to travel soon and prefer to walk around, hands-free, with just a backpack, you may want to take a look at the Cotopaxi Allpa 35L backpack, right now. On Indiegogo alone, Cotopaxi managed to raise over a million dollars to fund this project. Why so much hype for a backpack? My hunch is that it’s both a combination of the Allpa’s design and function that’s attracted a large amount of attention. Smaller than most giant travel backpacks, the Allpa 35l still has enough nomatic packing capacity to carry around 3 (4 if you’re a packing wiz) days worth of clothes.
Currently, the Allpa is going for $145 on Indiegogo, but who knows for how much longer that’ll remain. So if you want to act fast and get this huge deal, here are the highlights of the backpack you need to know.
The Allpa 35L Backpack: Specifications and Basic Information to Know
Dimensions: 20” X 12” X 8”
Fits 15” laptop
The size of the Allpa 35L makes it suitable to use as a carry-on backpack, not a personal item. Just to clarify, this means that you can’t bring the Allpa with you with a rolling carry-on. If you do, you’ll be asked to check one of the bags.
You should also know that, as part of their fundraising campaign, Cotopaxi is offering two bundle options. The first bundle option includes separate accessories that are compatible with the Allpa 35L Backpack. The accessory kit includes a laundry bag, nylon shoe bag, and detachable water bottle pocket that clips on. The bundle costs $160 and will retail for $190.

The second bundle option includes the Allpa, the accessories kit, and the Batac 16L Daypack. Made out of light nylon material, the Batac daypack is thin enough to fit in the Allpa without taking up too much space. One unique aspect of the Batac is that the color scheme is totally random for all bags. That’s because each bag is made with fabric remnants, thus creating something that is unique and environmentally conscious.
This bundle costs $180 and will retail for $230.

Quality Design and Materials of The Allpa 35L Backpack
Starting with the general exterior design and materials, the Allpa 35L backpack looks very promising. Just from a visual perspective, this bag looks intriguing with the combination of both fabrics. Made with TPU-coated 1000D polyester and paired with durable 1680D ballistic nylon paneling, this bag will withstand rain and basic travel wear. Made with YKK zippers that tuck away, this design both durable and minimalist.
You will either love or hate the color combination, so make sure you choose wisely. The Allpa 35L comes in a vibrant blue with pink accents and black with blue accents. I personally love the blue and pink combination, reminds me of a Patagonia backpack.
Ease of Travel and Comfort of The Allpa 35L Backpack
Not only is the durability of a backpack important, but how it wears and carries also.
The Allpa 35L backpack comes with padded shoulder straps, a mesh padded back panel, a hip belt, and a sternum strap. It’s these features help make it more comfortable to wear a backpack for long hours. Especially if you’re traveling with all your contents in your backpack, you need as much support as possible.
The Allpa 35L also gives you the option to tuck away the shoulder straps, giving you versatility of travel options. With four grab handles all around the bag, this bag is easy to grab and go.
No outside pockets or zippers means no annoying bulk getting caught everywhere. The YKK zippers all over the bag’s exterior have an anti-theft piece of webbing over the zipper closing. This makes it harder for thieves to get into your bag while keeping the bag looking minimal and sleek.
Organization and Space in the Allpa 35L Backpack
Finally, you should know that the Cotopaxi Allpa 35L backpack has an impressive amount of space, with compartments to keep your travel essentials organized.
The main compartment opens up like a suitcase with two sides for packing. On the right, a large mesh zippered space, and on the left, a smaller mesh zipper space with two small mesh zippers at the top. In the large mesh space, you could fit your bigger clothing, books, shoes, and such. You can also use packing cubes here to make the most of your space. The interior compression straps should help to keep your items from shifting too much as you walk around, as well as save you some space.
On one side of the backpack is an exterior access zipper that opens into the main compartment. That way you can get anything you may need, like a jacket, without having to open the entire bag.
On the other side of the bag is the padded laptop compartment, near the back of the pack. You can fit up to a 15” laptop inside, while also having a designated sleeve for a small tablet.
On the front face of the backpack, towards the top, is a small zipper pocket for your smaller valuables, like your phone, glasses, ticket, and wallet. This U-zip pocket only opens up a third of the way, but given that it isn’t very deep, it shouldn’t be a problem.
